Storage Cards

The Commodore Amiga computer started out as a 3.5" Floppy Disk based computer capable of storing 880KB of data on a Double Density Floppy.

Eventually it became possible to install hard drives into the Amiga computers, or in some cases bolt external hard drive chassis onto the side of these machines, using their expansion slots. At the time this functionality became possible, typical hard drive sizes, affordable to the consumer, were in the region of 10MB to 40MB (roughly the size of 10 or 40 floppy disks).

As the years progressed and the cost of hard drives came down and available capacity options increased, it became possible to install larger and larger drives. However, these drives still utilised moving internal parts, which eventually failed and often caused the loss of systems and data.

Moving forward to the modern day, it is now possible to use a high quality equivalent of the memory cards traditionally used to store pictures in digital cameras, as solid state high capacity hard drives, in Commodore Amiga computers. The lack of moving parts, provides for an increased life span and the small form factor makes it easier to install additional upgrades in the computer, without obstruction.

RetroEZ are proud to offer our own range of custom manufactured Solid-State Drives (SD Drives) and Compact Flash Drives (CF Drives) which have been specifically tested for use with the Amiga computer.

Please note, some 3rd party upgrade cards and devices may prefer SD cards to CF cards, in addition they may prefer shorter IDE adaptor cables or even cable-less IDE adaptors, into which these cards connect (such as the Rastport KA47, which we also supply).
