Nintendo Game Boy

We loved our Amiga computers. However (although many of us actually did take them to friends houses for long - often overnight - game sessions) it wasn't a practical daily occurrence to uplift and haul our Amigas to Sunday lunch at our Grandparents and entirely impossible to use during those long car journeys or when going on holiday.

For this reason, many of us owned at one time or another, some form of handheld gaming system. Although these units were portable, by the time we had added a handful of small cartridges, clip on lights (as most of these early handheld consoles did not have backlit screens as standard) speakers, battery packs and chargers, we typically ended up with small suitcases full of accessories.

Using modern technology, as with our Amiga machines, where we can now use SD storage cards, as hard drives. We can do a similar thing with our retro handheld consoles.

Using special cartridges, which have SD storage card slots on the top edge. We can place images of all the games we own, onto one cartridge.

With many 3rd party companies now also offering upgrades, to add IPS backlit screens; it has become possible to take a collection of hundreds of games with us, while only taking up the space of one cartridge.

Retro handheld consoles are a great way to play those old classic games, which were never released on platforms such as the Amiga, for example (Zelda and Mario) while enjoying an authentic platform experience.
