Accelerators & Upgrade Cards

Installing software and playing the games from our younger years is a satisfying and fun experience. However, although we were willing to wait for our games to load from (in some cases) 1 of 10 games disks, while we had a sip of pop and eagerly awaited the next game screen... Today we have become accustomed to much faster loading times and in some ways spoilt by the ability to play games via our web browser, without any need for loading times and instant on via our mobile phones and tablets, which boot in less than a few seconds.

This occasionally makes that first experience on retro hardware seem a little underwhelming. i.e. 'the game looks great, just how I remember it, but I forgot how long it takes to load'.

Or, opening that Workbench folder, which you proudly filled with 100s of WHDLoad games, only to realise a standard Amiga can take around 3 to 4 minutes to finish displaying a folder with this many files in it, after the folder has been double clicked.

In addition, we now have the ability to play many previously floppy disk only games, from our machine's hard drive via the fantastic WHDLoad system. WHDLoad games, often require more Chip RAM (memory) than a stock Amiga ships with from the factory and by the time Workbench has loaded and consumed some of that memory, there typically isn't enough left to launch these type of games.
